Lojinx is thrilled to welcome Astral Drive and introduce to you the first single “Summer of ’76”.
From the upcoming self-titled album on Lojinx, Astral Drive is songwriter and producer Phil Thornalley’s vision of a long lost album from the 1970s that only existed in his own mind. A labour of love that is very much the statement of a lifelong music fan living in the modern world.
The self-titled Astral Drive album will be released on the 6th of July and is available for pre-order now.
Brooklyn’s alternative rock heroes They Might Be Giants remain prolific as ever 35 years into their career. Their latest achievement is contributing the song “I’m Not A Loser” to SpongeBob SquarePants: The Musical which received a TONY Award nomination in the ‘Best Original Score (Music And/Or Lyrics)’ category and earned 12 nominations overall.
Earlier this year, the band released their 20th full-length album I Like Fun, was a guest on WTF with Marc Maron podcast, was referenced in an episode of Bob’s Burgers, hosted an Open Mike Eagle-judged “I Left My Body” video contest, performed on CONAN (+ special web-exclusive) and relaunched Dial-A-Song with weekly instalments of new music at www.dialasong.com! This week’s Dial-A-Song release is “By The Time You Get This” paired with an apocalyptic chiller of a music video featuring a cameo appearance by John and John, out today!
They Might Be Giants recently wrapped up the first leg of their world tour–a mostly sold-out 50-city trek across the USA, demolishing stages across the country in support of their new critically-acclaimed full-length studio album I Like Fun. After a short break and some summer festivals, the band is going back out on the road this fall with a stop at NYC’s Terminal 5 and their most extensive Canadian tour ever, following their previously announced dates in the UK and Europe. Their kinetic live energy transcends club stages as highlighted by their Rolling Stone Session and praise in The Atlantic.
Euro Tour Dates
I Like Fun is out now on Lojinx in Europe.
Pugwash will release a second 7-incher from last year’s lauded Silverlake album on the 25th May. “Without You” will be released on transparent clear vinyl backed with an intimate alternate version of album track “Sunshine True”. The single release is set to coincide with an extensive run of UK dates supporting Nick Heyward this summer.
Silverlake differs from previous Pugwash albums in one major respect: it’s essentially a collaboration between two men – Thomas and Jason Falkner. As a former member of Jellyfish, respected solo artist, and musician, Falkner – who’s worked with everyone from Paul McCartney to Air – is similarly underrated artist with a hugely loyal international following. For fans of these two cult heroes (and there are plenty) this promised to be a dream ticket and it delivers in droves.
Recorded in Falkner’s LA studio, Thomas wrote all 11 songs, arranged them, and played acoustic guitar. Jason played everything else (except the strings), sang backing vocals and recorded/produced. The result is a classy pop-rock feast featuring Walsh’s endlessly hooky melodies and Falkner’s unmistakeable sonic footprint.
With previous single picked among “Tracks Of 2017” by Radcliffe & Maconie on BBC6 Music, the album a top 5 album of the year in Mail On Sunday, and The Daily Express extolling “Thomas Walsh should be knighted for his services to songwriting”, it might well be a perfect summer ahead after all.

The new issue of Prog Magazine, out today, includes a 4-page feature on They Might Be Giants. Found out more at https://www.loudersound.com/prog.
John Flansburgh and John Linnell tell Marc the unlikely story of how a couple high school friends became a two-man band at the height of the New Wave performance art era in crime-ridden New York City and somehow carved out four decades of mainstream success as They Might Be Giants. The Johns also talk with Marc about children’s music, selling out, the early days of MTV, Malcolm in the Middle, and more.

selflessly hiding all emotions inside
chilly and dry New England style
nobody’s figured out my twelve fatal flaws
who’s keeping score?
who wins that war?
I’m busting out and I know everyone agrees
caring is carting bad ideas to the dump
and taking my time
taking my time
hey this microphone
was turned on all along
I tried returning all that stuff to the store
but then I bought more
then I bought more
I’m done explaining all these reckless displays
hard to defend
I’m in a haze
old stories told in brand new clothes I bought today
kindness is killing off my unfinished dreams
and walking away
just walking away
hey this microphone
was turned on all along
caring is carting bad ideas to the dump
and taking my time
taking my time
hey this microphone
was turned on all along
